The Shoe Grid [infographic]

Not all shoes are created equal, and not all are appropriate for each outfit. Pants and skirts of varying cuts and volumes look different with pointy-toed shoes than with round-toed ones, so how do you pick a pair each morning?

Have no fear, the Shoe Grid is here. Check out this handy guide to get the look you want.

I left off square-toed shoes, because they are rarely seen these days (though I am a fan of them in flats and boots). Those go much better with pants than with skirts.

What toe-box is your favorite? How do you decide what shoe goes with what outfit?

  1. Nice infographic! My closet is full of round-toed shoes because they completely cover the toe area and give my toes plenty of wiggle room. I dislike pointy-toed shoes because they tend to show "toe cleavage", which I think makes people look like they're wearing too-small shoes.

  2. Nicely done !
I am a trial gal. I put the outfit on and then try on at least 4 pairs os shoes with the outfit until i feel one pulls the look together.

    1. I'm with you...sometimes trying it on is the only way to tell whether something works or not. I've noticed these patterns, though, so figured I'd share. Of course, there will always be exceptions.

  3. While reading this "shoe grid" I completely agree. While I love shoes, I find that sometimes they are the most difficult to find. I am very pick when it comes to shoes and while im in stores I find it hard to find the exact pair im looking for. While I am preparing for an interview, job or any other event, I feel like shoes can make or break an outfit. The one type of shoe shown above that I am personally not a fan of is round heels. Everytime I have found a pair of round heels in the store, I find that they always look odd with any outfit. However, one part of the shoe grid that I love is the new trend of wearing tights. I use to hate wearing tights, but not especially in winter I find that they add a little something extra to an outfit!

    1. You know, I am not a fan of round-toe heels, either. I think they make my feet look stumpy, and it really bothers me so I don't buy them. But they are out there and they are popular. I know some people who think pointy-toe heels are weird looking, too, so we all have our personal preferences.

I love tights! I'm a little bummed that there is never really a chance to wear them in Miami.
